A story for every victim

Patrick Raymond Ortega, 25

Patrick Ortega, a 25-year-old Latino, was fatally stabbed Saturday, Oct. 6, in the 1900 block of South Atlantic Boulevard in Monterey Park, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

Police say Ortega was eating at Shakey’s restaurant about 7 p.m. following a Pop Warner football game. While there, he got into an argument with Jose De Jesus Ruiz, 24.

The argument turned into a physical fight when, prosecutors say, Ruiz stabbed Ortega. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

Following the incident, Ruiz was arrested and charged with one count of murder with a deadly weapon. If convicted, he faces 26 years to life in prison.

Anyone with additional information about the stabbing is asked to contact the sheriff's homicide bureau at (323) 890-5500. Tipsters wishing to remain anonymous can call Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-8477.
