Paul Mark Reed Jr., 26

Paul Mark Reed Jr., a 26-year-old black man, died Saturday, Dec. 3, after he was shot near East 109th Place and Wilmington Avenue in Watts, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.

Shortly before 11 p.m. on Dec. 2, Reed was sitting inside a vehicle when shots were fired and he was struck, said Los Angeles Police Det. Nathan Kouri. Police believe the shooter fired from the sidewalk, but it’s unknown if words were exchanged prior to the incident.

A man sitting in the driver's side of the vehicle was not injured.

Reed was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead the following day at 10:40 p.m. according to coroner’s records.

Police believe more than one person got into a vehicle and fled, but it’s unknown what kind of vehicle was involved.
