Paul Medina, identified by the coroner's office as a 25-year-old white man, died Saturday, Sept. 18, in the 4800 block of Union Pacific Avenue in East Los Angeles, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

Deputies responded to a report of shots fired, and later, victims down, about 12:50 a.m., the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said.

Medina was pronounced dead at the scene. A second victim was transported to a hospital and is expected to recover.

Authorities said Medina and the other victim were in their parked vehicle when someone drove up and shot at them.

Witnesses saw a dark-colored sedan driving east on Union Pacific Avenue after the shooting.

"The motive for the murder is still under investigation, but it's likely to be gang-related,” Lt. Pat Nelson said.

All these comments are valid. And thank you all for posting your opinion. I knew Paul and his family. We met at the park on 3rd st. (The Pond). Paul was a free spirit gentleman who always had a positive outlook at life. Regardless of the neighborhood we were brought up in he never joined a gang and he was anti violence just like Mohammed Gandhi. He had a passion for metal music and loved to smile. He always carried his manners. And loved his mother. The respect he had for her reflected on the way he'd speak of women in general. He was not perfect but he was a man of his word. If he said, I'll meet you at six pm. He show up at five fifty five. Lol. Paul was my real friend and he showed me how to love people for who they are not for what they look like nor for what they have. He knew we all come from the same Creator. He was celebrating his birthday that night and unfortunately the Creator called on him to return to where we all come from. His b-day is coming up again and I will be celebrating with him although I on earth and him, in heaven. Life is good so do good for others. We only live once.
