Pedro Ruiz, 29

Pedro Ruiz, a 29-year-old Latino, was fatally beaten Sunday, July 21, near the 300 block of 5th Avenue in Venice, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.

Shortly before 7:30 p.m., officers from the Los Angeles Police Department’s Pacific Division responded to a call of an assault in progress, said LAPD Det. Dave Vinton.

Police said that four men were hanging out when they got into an argument and three of the men began beating Ruiz.

Ruiz was pronounced dead at 7:35 p.m., according to coroner’s records.

Police arrested Juan Perez, a 26-year-old Latino, on suspicion of murder, Vinton said.

Perez has been charged with one count of murder with a gang allegation, according to the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office.

Two assailants have not yet been arrested.
