Ralph Jimenez, 65 [Updated]

Ralph Jimenez, a 65-year-old man, was found dead Friday, July 29, near Avenue 28 and Figueroa Street in Cypress Park, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

Firefighters responded to a report of a fire in an alley about 2:13 a.m., said Brian Humphrey of the Los Angeles Fire Department.

There they discovered Jimenez's burning body.

A crime scene was established, and the Los Angeles Police Department and Los Angeles County coroner's office were called in.

Ed Winter, spokesman for the coroner's office, said a cause of Jimenez's death has been deferred pending additional tests. Results will not be available for at least six to eight weeks.

[Update Jan. 12, 2012: According to coroner's officials, they are still investigating the death and the case remains deferred.]

[Update Jan. 24, 2013: According to coroner's officials, Jimenez's death was listed as undetermined. However, use of methamphetamine and phencyclidine, commonly known as PCP, may have contributed to his death, officials said.]
