Rashauna Denise Yarborough, 37

Rashauna Denise Yarborough, a 37-year-old black woman, was shot and killed Saturday, March 17, in the 2000 block of West Florence Avenue in the Manchester Square neighborhood of South Los Angeles, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.

A woman was arguing with her girlfriend about 1:30 p.m. in the area when Yarborough tried to intervene and was shot by one of the women, Los Angeles Police Det. Chris Barling said. 

Yarborough was taken to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead at 2:14 p.m., according to coroner’s records.

On March 20, Ana Marie Bufkin, a 30-year-old black woman, was arrested in Upland on suspicion of murder in connection with Yarborough’s death, Barling said.

Joanne Sondra James, a 27-year-old white woman, also was arrested and charged with one count of accessory after the fact, according to the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office.

Bufkin was charged with one count of murder with gun allegations and one count of assault by means of force likely to produce great bodily injury, according to prosecutors.

Bufkin and James have pleaded not guilty and are due back in court May 31, according to online court records.
