Ricardo Herrera Jr., a 21-year-old Latino, was shot and killed Tuesday, Oct. 17, near East Third Street and South Indiana Street in Boyle Heights, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
Herrera and a 35-year-old man were riding their bikes north on South Indiana Street near the Metro Gold Line Station about 1:30 a.m. when a gunman on the west side of the street shot them, Los Angeles Police Det. Jose Ramirez said.
Herrera was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 3:17 a.m.
The other man was hospitalized but is expected to survive, Ramirez said. Both victims lived near the scene, police said.
Detectives are still trying to determine whether the gunman opened fire while on foot or from a vehicle.
The men who were shot were not documented gang members, Ramirez said.
