A story for every victim

Robert Kazuo Morello, 49

Robert Morello, a 49-year-old Latino, was fatally stabbed Thursday, Sept. 29, in the 14900 block of Vermont Avenue in Gardena, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.

About 5:30 a.m., Gardena police were called about an unresponsive man on a sidewalk, according to a news release. Upon arriving, officers and paramedics attempted to aid Morello, who was bleeding. He was later pronounced dead at the scene.

The next day, detectives arrested Larry Wainscott, a 23-year-old transient from Hawaiian Gardens who matched a suspect description. On Oct. 4, he was charged with murder.

Investigators believe Morello was walking to work when Wainscott attacked.

If convicted as charged, Wainscott could face a maximum sentence of 25 years to life in prison.
