Rodrick Brumfield, a 44-year-old black male, was shot and killed Tuesday, March 1, in the 5300 block of S. Broadway in South Park, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

Los Angeles police officers from the Newton Division had been called to the location about 10:20 p.m. in response to a radio call reporting a shooting, according to an LAPD news release.

"When officers arrived, they were directed to an upstairs apartment where they found victim Brumfield suffering from multiple gunshot wounds," authorities said.

Brumfield was pronounced dead at the scene. According to coroner's records, he had been shot in the face and torso.

LAPD officials, who said it was not clear whether the incident was gang-related, said witnesses described the assailants as male blacks "who ran on foot from the location."
