Ruben Mendoza, 42

Ruben Mendoza, a 42-year-old Latino, died Saturday, Nov. 14, after he was shot in the 11400 block of Berendo Avenue in Westmont, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records. 

Mendoza was standing in the alley outside his house, talking to two other Latinos about 7:40 p.m. when the men started arguing, Los Angeles County Sheriff's Lt. Steve Jauch said. 

One of the men pulled out a gun and shot Mendoza, Jauch said, and then the two men fled. 

Mendoza was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 8:09 p.m., according to coroner's records. 

Jauch said investigators don't have a description of the men and still are trying to determine why Mendoza was talking to them.
