Ryan Deshane Givens, 29

Ryan Deshane Givens, a 29-year-old black man, was shot and killed Monday, Jan. 20, in the 10200 block of Santa Monica Boulevard in Century City, according to Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s records.

About 10 p.m., two women with separate groups were at a restaurant in the Westfield Century City mall when they got into a fight, police said.

The altercation moved outside, and Givens, who was with one of the groups, was shot in front of the restaurant.

People in the area called police about 10:17 p.m. to report a fight, then the call was upgraded to a shooting in progress, according to a news release.

Officers arrived and found Givens with multiple gunshot wounds. Givens was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 11:34 p.m., according to coroner’s records.

Witnesses described the suspect as a black man who is between age 25 and 30, who was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and blue jeans.

Police said the two groups didn’t appear to know each other, but it’s unclear what the fight was about.
