Salvador Guzman, 39

Salvador Guzman, a 39-year-old Latino, died Wednesday, Feb. 29, after being shot in the 300 block of East 159th Street in West Compton, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

Guzman and his nephew, Ricardo Guzman Jr., a 19-year-old Latino, were fatally shot about 4:40 p.m., the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said.

Coroner’s records show both men were shot in the back.

Officials provided no other information about the shooting.

At least 56 slayings have been reported within two miles of the shooting since January 2007, according to the The Times Homicide Report database. Nearly all the victims died from gunshot wounds.
