Sandra L. Concul Calderon, a 36-year-old Latino female, died Sunday, March 14, after being stabbed near 1643 W. 4th St. in Westlake, according to Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner's records.

Sandra was my esteemed colleague who always shared a bright warm smile with you and had the most amazing charismatic personality that would just brighten up any room she was in. Walking through her work area was always so much fun and a path I would take towards my Office as she would greet you, wish you a good day or make you smile with her playful ways. Walking through her work area and not seeing/ hearing her there reminds us all of just how missed she is as it is now an empty room without someone to greet you for most days. Days prior to hearing of this tragedy another colleague of mine noticed the kitchen/ lunch area lacked decorations for St. Patricks Day, which was odd because there was no holiday that could go by in the year without decorations, which she would gracefully put up. I was accustomed to see her throughout my shift either talking on the phone, singing, laughing or waiting out in the lobby area after her shift. Hearing of this tragedy shattered my heart for her, her little girl and her family. I can still see her smile and hear her words of encouragement she shared with me to this very day. I will stay with how empowering she was towards me as a Latina woman with a Master’s degree, which was so meaningful to me. My condolences go out to her little girl and family, they are all in my prayers to help them overcome this tragedy, but yet have Sandra’s energy live through them.
