Second man sentenced in 2010 killing in Bellflower
A 22-year-old man was sentenced April 3 to state prison for a 2010 murder in Bellflower, according to the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office.
Convicted by a jury of first-degree murder, Miguel Montanez was sentenced to 32 years to life for the shooting death of Danny Renteria Jr.
Prior to the start of his trial, Montanez plead no contest to possession of an assault weapon.
In January 2014, co-defendant Leonel Santiago, 25, pleaded no contest to voluntary manslaughter and was sentenced to 26 years in state prison.
Renteria, 26, was shot and killed Aug. 21, 2010, in the 17800 block of Ibbetson Avenue in Bellflower, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.
Renteria was standing in his front yard about 12:15 a.m. when two men in a white vehicle drove past his home and fired multiple rounds, according to L.A. County sheriff’s officials.
He was taken to Long Beach Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 12:49 a.m., according to coroner's records.
