Sylmar man sentenced to 35 years to life for killing his wife

A Sylmar man was sentenced Feb. 26 to 35 years to life in state prison for killing his wife, according to the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office.

Albino Topete Morales, a 60-year-old Latino, was found guilty Dec. 9, 2015, of first-degree murder for killing Maria Ines Morales,45, as well as one count of shooting at an inhabited dwelling. Jurors also found true the special allegation that Morales used a handgun in the killing.

Prosecutors said Albino Morales wrongfully believed his wife of 25 years was cheating on him.

On Aug. 11, 2014, Albino Morales shot Maria Morales at their home. During the shooting, a bullet traveled into a neighbor’s home and caused damage to multiple rooms. A family was watching TV at the time, prosecutors said.
