A story for every victim

Sergio Sanchez, 35

Sergio Sanchez, a 35-year-old Latino, was shot and killed Friday, March 14, on the Roxford Street off-ramp of the westbound 210 Freeway in Sylmar, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.

Responding to a call of traffic obstruction, California Highway Patrol officers found Sanchez inside his Mitsubishi shortly before 1 a.m., according to a news release from the Los Angeles police department.

Sanchez was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 1:30 a.m., according to coroner’s records.

“Preliminary evidence tends to show this is a case of road rage,” Lt. Paul Vernon said in a police statement.  “Bullet impacts and glass fragments lead us to think the shooter fired at the victim from the victim’s side of the car.”

The CHP closed all westbound lanes of the 210 Freeway from the 118 Freeway around 3 a.m. to allow investigators to search for possible evidence. The closure was lifted at 5:34 a.m.

Update May 27, 2015: Investigators now believe that Sanchez was a victim of alleged serial killer Alexander Hernandez, 34, of Sylmar. The Los Angeles County district attorney's office has charged Hernandez with five counts of capital murder and 10 counts of attempted murder in connection with 15 apparently random drive-by shootings in the San Fernando Valley between March and August of 2014.
