Shonteia Mayfield (2007-10-09)

Shonteia Mayfield, 30, a black woman, was found burned to death in a vehicle at 2030 W. 17th Street in Long Beach just after midnight Tuesday, Oct. 9.

Firefighters summoned police after being called to the burning compact car in an industrial area where she was found. She was a mother of three from Compton.

Anyone with any information is asked to call Long Beach Dets. Mark McGuire or Hugo Cortes at (562) 570-7244.

[Updated Jan. 22, 2010: Ed Winter, a spokesman for the coroner's office, said Mayfield's death has been listed as undetermined. Winter said her death has not been officially ruled a homicide because coroner's investigators and detectives do know if someone lit her car on fire, or if she lit it on fire herself to commit suicide.]
