Six teens sentenced in shooting deaths

In June 2011 six teenagers were sentenced to state prison in the shooting deaths of two youths at a park in Pomona.

Timmy Moore, a 17-year-old black youth, was shot Friday, Jan. 29, 2010, at Ted Greene Park in Pomona. He was airlifted to a hospital where he was pronounced dead at 5:01 p.m., according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

Ed Winter, a spokesman for the coroner's office, said Prithesh Dunn, a 15-year-old Asian youth, was shot in head and on life support until his death on Feb. 2.

Police said they received "numerous calls" from witnesses reporting the shooting, which occurred shortly before 4 p.m. at the park located at Orange Grove and La Verne avenues in Pomona.

Dunn and Moore were shot during what witnesses described as a fight between rival gang members at the park. A third youth was wounded during the incident.

Six teens were charged as adults in connection with the killings. Dayveon Derrick Thomas; Denzel Isaiah Omar; Devin Adel Omar; Johnny Moore; Samuel Boyd; and Davontay Jenkins were all charged with two counts of murder and one count of attempted murder, according to the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office.

Thomas, 18, Moore, 17, and Jenkins, 17, each pleaded no contest to voluntary manslaughter and were sentenced on June 1, 2011, to nine years in state prison.

Boyd, 18, pleaded no contest to voluntary manslaughter and was sentenced on June 1, 2011, to three years in state prison.

Denzel Isaiah Omar, 15, pleaded no contest to voluntary manslaughter and was sentenced on June 1, 2011, to 12 years in state prison.

Denzel’s older brother, Devin Adel Omar, 17, pleaded no contest to voluntary manslaughter and was sentenced on June 29, 2011, to nine years in state prison.
