Stacley Jennings, 34 [Updated]

Stacley Jennings, a 34-year-old black woman, was shot and killed Wednesday, Sept. 22, in the 1000 block of East 42nd Place in Historic South-Central, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

Ed Winter, spokesman for the coroner's office, said Jennings was involved in a car-to-car shooting about 1:58 a.m.

She was taken by paramedics to County-USC Medical Center where she died from a gunshot wound to the head at 3:55 a.m., Winter said.

The Times has contacted investigators to get more information about the case and will provide an update as soon as details become available.

[Update, Oct. 5: LAPD Newton Det. Thomas Brown, who is handling the investigation, said Jennings and her boyfriend were on McKinley and Vernon when the shooting occurred.

After the car was hit by gunfire, Jennings’ boyfriend drove the vehicle to her home  on 42nd Place and called police.

Paramedics arrived and she was taken to the hospital, where she later died, Brown said.

The boyfriend was not injured and no one else was in the car, he said.

Witnesses to the shooting described the shooter's vehicle as a reddish, mid-sized American car.
