Steven Smith, 39

Steven Smith, 39, a black man, was shot in the head in the 700 block of West 43rd Street in South-Central L.A. about 1:20 a.m. Wednesday, March 5. Residents in the area were awakened by multiple gunshots.

Smith was discovered on the sidewalk and taken to a hospital, where he died the next day at 3:10 p.m. The motive for the shooting is unknown, said Det. Robert Lait of LAPD's South Bureau.
