A story for every victim

Tijah Devon Johnson, 23

Tijah Devon Johnson, a 23-year-old black man, was fatally shot on Saturday, Nov. 23, in the 1900 block of East Pine Street in Compton, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

Johnson was hanging out with several people a few blocks from his home shortly after noon when a single shot was fired from the driver's side window of a white or grayish-colored compact SUV heading south on East Pine Street, said Los Angeles County sheriff's Lt. Brandon Dean.

The shot hit Johnson directly in the face, Dean said. "The distance was a good 40 yards," he said. "I don't think it was that good of a shot; it looks like just total luck."

Johnson was pronounced dead at the scene at 12:50 p.m., according to coroner's records. The cause of death was listed as a gunshot wound to the head.

Investigators believe the attacker may be a gang member, Dean said.
