Timothy James, a 44-year-old black man, died Wednesday, Feb. 29, minutes after he was shot in the 2100 block of Long Beach Boulevard in Compton, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

Ed Winter, spokesman for the coroner's office, said James and a friend were sitting on a bench Feb. 28 about 11:57 p.m., when the friend got up and went into a building.

While inside, the friend heard a gunshot, Winter said. The friend came out and found James shot.

Authorities were called, and paramedics pronounced the victim dead at the scene at 12:10 a.m.

Winter said no suspects were in custody. He had no other information about the case.

My Dad was a great person that was sometime misunderstud, He was a kind hearted person that listened to me when I had a problem and or if I had a situation that I could not handle he would give me security that I'd be ok. When I could talk to anyone because of how they would act or treat me for the truth, my dad would listen. Who ever took my dad away from me I forgive you, but you took the only person I had in my life to talk to. We would sit on the phone for hours talking about nothing and I'd hang up smiling and thinking that is was the best coversation ever. It's too bad that some dont think of the ones that they are hurting before a cowardly act takes place. I forgive you and only you will have to deal with GOD at judgement day. On February 29, 2012 my life was forever changed when I was awaken with the news of my brother's death. My heart continues to break everyday as my family and I struggle to move forward with our lives without my brother Timothy. My brother's senseless death has devastated our family and we will never be the same. I plead that anyone who has any information regarding the people responsible for my brother's death contact the authorities immediately. Our family will not find peace until justice is served. My brother was not just some stranger sitting on a bench. He was a beloved son, brother, father, cousin, nephew, and friend. We miss him so much that the pain is sometimes unbearable. Timmy, we love you and miss you so much.
