Traveon Ashanti Winkler, 30

Traveon Ashanti Winkler, a 30-year-old black man, was shot and killed Thursday, Aug. 29, near West 74th and South Flower streets in Vermont Knolls, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.

Shortly before 11:30 a.m., officers from the Los Angeles Police Department's 77th Division responded to a call of a shooting and found Winkler on the west sidewalk suffering from a gunshot wound, said LAPD Det. David Dilkes.

Winkler was pronounced dead at the scene at 11:34 a.m., according to coroner’s records.

Detectives determined that Winkler got into an altercation with another person moments before the shooting. The other person pulled out a gun and shot Winkler, then took off running.

Police are looking for witnesses.
