A story for every victim

Travoy Emiel Edwards, 47

Travoy Emiel Edwards, a 47-year-old black man, was shot and killed Wednesday, Aug. 30, in the 1200 block of West Magnolia Street in Compton, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.

Edwards had driven to the neighborhood where he used to live and was hanging out with some people outside, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Lt. Derrick Alfred said.

Residents reported hearing the group arguing around 8:50 p.m., but things soon quieted. An hour later, gunfire was reported, Alfred said.

When deputies arrived, people were running away, and Edwards was lying on the sidewalk at West Magnolia Street and North Broadacres Avenue, Alfred said. He was pronounced dead at the scene at 9:59 p.m., according to coroner’s records.

Investigators don’t have any suspect information.

“It sounds like it was a walk-up and drive-away because no cars were seen driving away, but we don’t even know that for sure,” Alfred said.

Anyone with information is asked to call the sheriff’s Homicide Bureau at (323) 890-5500. Those wishing to remain anonymous should call Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-8477.
