A story for every victim

Trina Chaney, 25

Trina Chaney, a 25-year-old black woman, was found dead in an alley near East 105th and Grape streets in Watts on Nov. 3, 1986.

Chaney was believed to be the 18th victim of the so-called Southside Slayer, at the time believed responsible for a string of killings in the area. Authorities later tied some of those deaths to men convicted in multiple killings but Chaney's remains among those attributed to an unidentified killer.

Witnesses nearby when she was slain said they heard her yelling "Help! Help!"several hours before her nude body was found sprawled in an alley.
