Two teens charged in connection with Long Beach killing
Two 17-year-old males have been charged with one count each of murder as well as gang enhancements in connection with a 2014 killing in Long Beach, according to the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office.
Rogelio Lopez-Aguirre and Steven Garnica, who are being charged as adults, pleaded not guilty Jan. 7 and are due back in court Feb. 20, according to the district attorney's office.
Enrique Avila, a 19-year-old Latino, was fatally stabbed Oct. 31, 2014, in the 200 block of East 68th Street in Long Beach, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
About 11:30 p.m., Long Beach police responded to a call of a stabbing in the area, according to a news release from the Long Beach Police Department.
Avila was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead, according to coroner’s records.
