Tyshawn Lawrence Butler, 19

Tyshawn Lawrence Butler, a 19-year-old black man, was fatally shot Thursday, March 12 near West El Segundo Boulevard and Cimarron Avenue in Hawthorne, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.

Shortly before 5:30 p.m., Inglewood police officers responded to West Century Boulevard and South Prairie Avenue for a call of a shooting victim, according to a news release from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

Officers found Butler in a Ford SUV with a gunshot wound. The driver told police that they had been stopped at the intersection of El Segundo Boulevard and Cimarron Avenue when a green vehicle drove up and a person shot into the car, striking Butler.

The driver was trying to get Butler to a hospital when he saw an ambulance in Inglewood and flagged it down.  Butler was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 6 p.m. according to coroner’s records.
