A story for every victim

Tyvone Greene, 25

Tyvone Greene, a 25-year-old black man, was shot and killed Friday, March 23, in the 2300 block of East Alondra Boulevard in Compton, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

Deputies responded to a 911 call of a gunshot victim about 5:30 p.m., said sheriff's homicide Sgt. Bill Marsh, who is handling the case.

When authorities arrived, they discovered Greene lying on the sidewalk with several gunshot wounds. Paramedics were called, and the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

During the investigation, detectives learned that prior to the shooting, Greene was being chased by an unknown person with a gun. The assailant fired at Greene, then fled the area.

The shooter was last seen heading north on a side street, Marsh said.

Authorities have made no arrest in connection with the case, and the motive for the killing remains unclear.

Witnesses described the shooter as a male African American in his mid- to late-20s or early 30s. He is about 5 feet 6 to 5 feet 8. He was wearing a dark-blue shirt, possibly blue denim jeans and a hat.

Anyone with information about the slaying or the identity of the killer is asked to contact Det. Marsh at the sheriff's homicide bureau at (323) 890-5500. Those wishing to remain anonymous can call Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-8477.
