A story for every victim

Rudolph Galaz II, 42 [Updated]

Rudolph Galaz II, a 42-year-old Latino, died Monday, July 19, in the 1000 block of South Gerhart Avenue in Commerce, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

[For the record: An earlier version of this post, which was based on the original report, identified Galaz as an unknown male that was 25 years old.

Preliminary information provided by the coroner described the circumstances as a drive-by shooting, but no address was immediately provided. The man was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.]

The Times is requesting more information from investigators and will provide an update as soon as details become available.

[Update July 26: Sheriff’s homicide Det. David Gunner, who is handling the investigation, said Galaz was standing on the sidewalk about midnight when he was shot.

Investigators are still trying to determine if it was a drive-by shooting, however the incident is not believed to be gang-related, Gunner said.

Authorities made an arrest the day of the incident, he said, but the person has since been released because of a lack of evidence.

Anyone with information about Galaz’s death is asked to contact Det. Gunner at (323) 890-5500.]
