A story for every victim

Vera Michaelson, 33

Vera Michaelson, a 33-year-old white woman, was shot and killed Wednesday, June 15, in the 15000 block of Sherview Place in Sherman Oaks, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

Police were called to the home of Vera and her husband Alex Michaelson, 39, about 6:40 p.m. When authorities arrived, they found the couple dead, said Officer Bruce Borihanh, a spokesman for the Los Angeles Police Department.

Detectives also found a weapon at the scene.

“It is being investigated as a murder-suicide,” Borihanh said.

Vera was shot several times in the head, according to coroner's records.

“Detectives are interviewing anybody and everybody to see if they can determine a motive," he continued. "There are no outside suspects being pursued.”

Borihanh confirmed that Alex Michaelson was a Tarzana physician and his wife had recently graduated from dental school, but it was unclear where she worked.

The couple have two children, but they were not home at the time, Borihanh said.

According to broadcast news reports, neighbors told police they had heard gunshots between 11 a.m. and noon Wednesday, but they failed to immediately alert authorities.

Anyone with information about the killing is asked to contact the sheriff's homicide bureau at (323) 890-5500. Tipsters who would like to remain anonymous can call Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-TIPS (800) 222-8477.
