A story for every victim

Victor Luis Figueroa, 47

Victor Luis Figueroa, a 47-year-old Latino, was shot and killed Wednesday, Aug. 29, in the 8000 block of Garvey Avenue in Rosemead, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.

A Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputy was driving west on Garvey Avenue about 11 p.m. when he heard gunshots ahead of him, said Lt. Joe Mendoza.

The deputy drove toward the gunshots and found Figueroa lying on the sidewalk outside a trailer park, Mendoza said.

Figueroa had been visiting at the trailer park earlier in the evening and was leaving with a female acquaintance when the shooting occurred, Mendoza said.

Figueroa's friend told investigators that she heard gunshots and when she turned around she saw a man running west on Garvey Avenue, Mendoza said. She was unable to provide any further description of the gunman, he said.

Figueroa was pronounced dead at the scene at 11:09 p.m., according to coroner’s records. The cause of death was listed as multiple gunshot wounds.
