Vincent Paul Ramos, 31

May 3, 2010, 11:30 a.m.

Vincent Ramos, a 31-year-old Latino, died Friday, April 30, several hours after he was shot at Pacific Avenue and 6th Street in Long Beach, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

Long Beach police officers responded to a call of shots fired Thursday about 10:15 p.m., according to a police news release.

When officers arrived, they found Ramos on the sidewalk with a gunshot wound to his upper body.

He was taken by paramedics to a hospital where he died Saturday at 1:39 a.m., according to coroner's records.

Investigators believe the incident was a walk-up shooting, although the motive remains unknown.

The incident is being investigated as possibly gang-related, police said.

Anyone with information about the death of Vincent Ramos is asked to contact homicide Dets. Malcolm Evans and Todd Johnson at (562) 570-7244.

This is a pair of open arms extended to the family & most of all the children of Casper R.I.P I too have suffered the loss of one that had a darkened past. Many of the "Brown Neighborhood" know him as "Bear" but my children knew him only as "daddy" or Billy Eugene.This man had over come so many obsticles & had much bigger dreams of motivating todays youth by sharing his pain,struggles,regrets,&loss of both his parents before the age of 7. He had become a leader in the churches & counciled in the mens shelter hoping that he could share the trama,loss, grief,and then show all there is hope,love,understanding &a future but on his birthday 11/22/2009 he was murdered at his celebration. He was only in LA to be with his sons for this occassion. While his 2 yr old daughter awaited his return home. His sister had to come to terms that her only family was gone &then to have to look in the eyes of her nephews to inform them daddy was with god that grandma&grandpa needed him too.. The big picture here is one life that "bangers" term disposable we find "IRREPLACEABLE" these are daddys,brothers,sons,all gods children let him be the judge..... What was the point of L.A. Times writer putting this guys prison record on display?....It's seems that everyone knew he was in prison at some point in life from all the comments...But you had to go further and chime in your two cents...Stick to writing and save your comments for you friends at home....TO ALL OTHER comments...Do not get caught up in a debate with Syscom....He/she only responds when she feels he/she has an upper hand...but when challenged to go to the communities to confront these people there are never any comments...Syscom is obsess with the inner city and the gang members that roam these streets...but whenever the gang member is white he has to say about the incident....SYSCOM is a JOKE and I would love to meet anywhere and hold a debate with this clown...I live in a safe community(BELMONT SHORE) so that shouldnt be a problem right SYSCOM? you let me know clown...when the Police officer died from a DUI did you ever think about this before you spoke...Police officers are supposed to uphold the law and should follow the law even more

WOW I live in SC the 49th state in education, and its unreal to me the level of stupidity that is going on in that community in California, our richest state, I can tell from the grammar and spelling that education is not a high priority there, moreover, the morality of those folks to try to glorify a gangster lifestyle shows how ignorance breeds ignorance. Syscom3 and like comments are spot on. We have a war against terror, we need a war against ignorance and gangsters. One woman is actually proud to be carrying his child. What sort of atmosphere is this child going to be brought up in. Is he going to take his daddy's place?come on people, this is America, the opportunities are here to get an education, open a business, live a life that contributes to society. This man's life should be a good lesson for kids in the neighborhood, that they need to do the opposite of what he did. ok haters, I did NOT know Casper Personally, but I DO know friends of his and I DO know the LORD. I don't keep up with who said what on these posts so read on bitches and let it merinate for a bit. for those who say he was a well know gangster and why do the people who are close to him always "sugar coat it" and say what a great guy he was? well maybe that's because THEY KNEW HIM!!!! and more importantly ONLY GOD KNOWS HIS HEART AND HIS INTENTIONS. It's just the same old story he was changing his life around when this happened. That is a bunch of B.S. I would respect anyone even more if they for once said the truth he had a record, was gangbanging, committed crimes, that's why he is a felon. I am saddened to see this happy go lucky homie go. I 1st met him in 92' (LP) often confused him with his brother who was also cool. I later ran into him 10 yrs later, he meant no harm. He has matured in his picture (another 10 yrs since we last met).Gang members are human and are a products of our environment. Quick for you to judge someone off the bat, that all gang members are bad. Most of us act when threatened. Dont %$# with us, we wont &^^%$ with you....simple. Most of us have more respect then any of you so called "law abiding citizens "will ever have, (cowards)you know who you are. I banged since the age of 11...went thru the whole system. My nephew Vincent was buried yesterday and I was so happy to hear what the two pastors that spoke said about him. I know that many seeds were planted and watered in Vincent throughout his life but one day he answered God's call and invited Jesus to be the Lord of his life. Yes, we all have to pay consequences for the things we do in our life, but know this, once God forgives us, He forgets. There is only one way to get into heaven, and thats through Jesus Christ. A lot of people got saved at his funeral when the salvation message was given. I am so thankful to God for that. God Bless you all and Thank you for all of the people that helped in the car wash. He ended up having a very nice memorial service and he will be cremated and finally put to rest. He had a hard life, but now he will finally have peace, joy and love with the Lord.

I make no judgment since I do not know the man. I just wanted that God’s truth is clearly stated, not the “we need the feel good stuff” that is sometimes spoken. That is why I use the two thieves on the cross. One repented and the other did not (Luke 23:39-43). The two men reflect us as humans. There are people in church right now, who have not truly accepted the gift (truly) as it was in the time of Jesus. If the man repented and accepted Christ, he is Saved. As for going to church as a child that was good but that is not a Pass. It is in fact worst for the one who rejects. That is someone who knows better and does not do right before God (Pharisees/Pastors/Priests or us). Please take a read of Luke 23: verses 39 thru 43. It is also true We can not escape the consequences of the life we lead. We can pray that God will give us strength to endure and not repeat it, but we have to still deal with it. I read about all these lost souls and hopeful that another will read these things and make a change, because so long as you live, YOU CAN.

This is a response to J.R.'s comment. I totally understand about salvation. If a person asks God to forgive them for their sins and asks Jesus into their hearts, than God forgives and forgets. We don't need to complicate salvation.
Thank you LB Raider for letting everyone know that he excepted God's forgiveness a week before his passing. As a young child my oldest sister Mary took him and his brother to church regularly and I took them as young teenagers regularly. Somewhere along the line he became troubled like many of our youth. Like I said before, which you obviously didn't understand, J.R. was that I didn't always agree with things he did but I always loved him. When we receive Jesus into our lives, God forgives us and takes us as his own. Vincent did have a hard life, but God obviously knew his heart. Only God knows of the final outcome of his soul, not you or anybody else. All who except Jesus Christ as savior will enter into God's kingdom.

Reply to Aunt Darlene. First even demons (fallen angels) believe in Jesus but it does not mean they are forgiven. We as people have been given very special status. If we chose to accept that free gift from God then we accept it on his terms” not ours”. That means letting go of that old life style and taking his (Christ). Just because you have family and love one that love you does not mean you’re forgiven (by God’s standards). Only those who have accept Christ as their Lord and Master are Children of God (sorry no others). There is grace for children since they do not know or understand, but not for adults. It is true God know each person heart, for it is full of sin. That is why Jesus gave his life for us. Because we are sinner save by God’s mercy and grace. We can as believers judge other believers but God’s judgment is on the non believer. So many people pick & choose bible verses but if you want to learn God’ truth, we need to read and study “the whole book” (not sound bites). Remember he did not come to change the law but to fulfill it. We are all like the two thieves on the cross with Jesus. One repented and accepted the free gift and the other rejected and condemns him selves (the unforgiven sin). May God’s truth be proclaims in all believers lives.

Let the truth be told and I hope this message gets posted. Casper I'm shocked to have learned what happened to you. You will be missed and yes you were a gangster but things changed. We all do bad at one time in our life but its our choice to change it and I know thats what you were trying to really do. I'm sorry it never turned out that way for you. You are were God has placed you and thats better than anywhere else. I hope the Cops find out who killed you. Vincent was a great friend!! to me my children and to those who knew him, I can truly say that I was one of his TRUE friends. Who says that you cant make mistakes in life and then do your best to correct those wrongs and change? thats what life is about. You live, learn and grow from your mistakes.
So what is he did anything that you people acuse him of? That WAS in the past. you dont have the right to condem him no longer. Your nonsence is painful and wrong. YOU DIDNT EVEN KNOW HIM!! you only knew of his past! not of him at the time, you dont know of him since the day that he walked out of prison, he payed his debt to society for his mistakes, no one can say that when he got out he came to terrorize!! no ones death should be taken lightly! you can all see that all his famliy agrees that he make poor choices, ones he payed for, so forget that crap, its all garbage!! he wanted and struggled to do better and get ahead, its so easy for you people who didnt know him, who didnt live in his life to cendem and judge it easy for you to talk, YOU DIDNT EVEN KNOW HIM! stop slandering his memory, if you dont have nothing good or positive then just keep your hurtful and painful things to your self, dont you all understand this section is for family and friends that loved him that mourn him, that miss him, it a place where we can get together and share our grief together, im sure the family dose not need to hear your hurtful words about him, you just make it more horrible for us. this section is for us who love him and miss him and are hurting. please have some consideration. when one passes away from a violent death or at the hands of another...the out come from family and friends is always what a wonderful person he or she was. However, the dead person left a leagcy of hurt and unresolved feelings to many others. Any person's death does not desolve him of his past sins or criminal acts. Who out there has the Audacity to say that a violent criminal act against another person does not affect that victim for the rest of his or her life? Why then should the death of a violent criminal put to rest the past that he or she lived? At what point does God since so many want to bring that into play say enough is enough? IF God really does judge us and he has final say on where our souls end up…Why? Then should I live a good Christian life style and not do what I want to do when I want to do it however I want to do it if in the end God forgives us all? If none of us have to “pay” for our sins why the need for God, I mean after all if no matter what I do I will end up in how do the gang bangers put it paradise then why do we need man’s law? After all no matter what I do on this earth God is waiting to forgive me of all my sins past and present. I guess the bigger shame where is that man is not as for giving as your God. For you see….for all those that cry out KARMA will get you…it will. And unlike us mere human beings karma does not have a time table. So for those that wish karma on someone who killed his/her loved one. Just remember that karma has no time table the act committed 20 years ago against some innocent has come back to bite the now dead one in the butt. We all ask for karma to step in and we also ask the same from God to bring the scum bag to justice….but the one thing that no one has addressed in all the words here on this site is the karma asked for 1 or 2 or 20 years ago from the victim of a crime that was possibly committed by your now dead loved one. Has God not spoken? Has karma not stepped in? After all a robbery committed by your loved one 5 years ago had a victim who asked for justice or the victim of graffiti who has to go out every Monday to paint over the graffiti that was left by your now dead loved one when he was just starting out on his criminal life that wall belongs to someone and he does not want it marked up. Does that person not deserve justice? He’s prayer was answered….not in the time that he would have liked but in time none the less. So when the family of the dead write about how his most recent past was changed and he was in the process of changing his future just remember that some where in his past is a victim of his criminal life style that asked God for vengeance and karma to step in and even out the score. Neither of which has a time table that we like

First and foremost, May you Rest in Peace Vincent Ramos.

Secondly, Thelma, I know you know who I am... I just want you to know that I am praying for you and your child. My heart goes out to you. When my family heard the news we were all deeply saddened. Although our relationship is complicated, I want you to know that I am praying for God to give you comfort in your time of sorrow. You are truly a good person at heart with a troubled life. Regardless of your poor choices in life in the past, you have a good heart. God sees that and I have faith that he will comfort you. I know that life has thrown many obstacles at you in the recent months past, whether by your own fault or not, I know youve gone through a lot. I wish I could give you a cmoforting hug like I know I have in the past. You and I didnt see eye to eye about a lot of things.. Which is quite understandable.. due to the circumstances. nonetheless, I want you to know that I am truly, deeply saddened, please dont lose your faith in God. Only he knows why things happened the way they did. My deepest condolences to the Ramos Family and their friends.

All I have to say is that "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, so that who so ever believes in Him shall not perish but shall have ever lasting life." Those are words right out of the bible..John 3:16. Do you notice that the word says who so ever? I don't agree with any kind of gang activity but Vincent obviously has family and friends that love him and he will be missed. To those of you who judge, remember God will judge you in the same mannor that you judge others. He may have had a past, but you don't know what was in his heart. Only God knows that and He will be the final judge, not you. I loved my nephew even though I didn't always agree with things in his life. He was one of God's children as each and every one of us are. God knows our hearts and the reasons we do the things we do. Instead of saying hurtful things to people, why don't you have compassion? After all, Jesus had compassion for you, so much so that He died for you, in spite of your ugly comments.

It would be nice to meet some of you and see what kind of individuals some of you are. It's real easy to sit behind a computer and run your mouth when you shouldn't. I never met this man but I have known many Caspers' throughout my life. Some have been some of the greatest individuals I've met, some have been the total opposite. Gangsters will always be gangsters, and gangsters will always do ganster things, that's the kind of life these people chose. Good for you for choosing otherwise. I have more respect for these people then some of you "Model Citizens" because of your lack of respect. This happend recently, now knowing that, how do you think this sits with the family? He is their loved one, I know it's hard for some of you to comprehend that just like you and me, Casper had something special within himself that allowed his loved ones to feel the way they do about him. Does it make you feel like you're a better individual because you had your say here and maybe made his loved ones shed and extra tear or two because of what you're saying? Let me know, I'm curious about that. What in all your life have you done to help the situation, I'll tell you what you did-Nothing- exept run your mouth behind a computer screen. Some man you are. @syscum3, Yes i do know that the state is broke i guess your blaming that on the gangsters. Yes i pay taxes just like you pay taxes but do i let in control my every thought no. I don't condone what gangsters do to these communities. But talking about the dead is not going to change anything.You come on here to bash and disrespect the dead.I see you didn't have nothing to say about going into these same communities and voicing your opinion and seeing as to how you can help someone reform. You must really have a miserable life. They say misery loves company and you get your company from the people on this blog. You act as if someone actually walks up to your door tell you that a crime has been committed and they need you to pay for it. You're going to pay taxes regardless of what it is for at the time. You say that you can judge only GOD can judge and it means something. your judgement means nothing to no one. Syscom3...Your messages to all the gangbangers that are now DEAD is redundant...Again, La Times has mapped the location of all of these crimes.....Get off the computer and go to that location and state you case to the gangbangers that are STILL ALIVE and maybe you can reach them by sharing with them that once they die and are listed here on the homicide report....That you will write a message telling them your glad their dead.

JJ there is no answer to the your question of why God decided Vincent's death to be a gun shot to the chest rather than him dying in his sleep. Why was an innocent child hit by a car and dragged a mile instead of dying in her sleep? Things happen and all we know for sure is that they are not here anymore. As family and friends our only comfort is to believe that he is with God now. Vincent was my cousin who I haven't seen in many years and I didn't know him at all but I am still affected by this tragedy. I have family that I am close to who were close to him who are truely saddened, as we should all be because S**t happens and no one is promised tomorrow. It could have been you or me or anyone of us. This is the world we live in and all we can do is prepare ourselves for when the day comes when we no longer occupy this earth yet live eternally in peace and happiness with GOD!

I was blessed to have met Vincent Ramos on my birthday... June 5th, 2009. I took him out on his first date as a man : ) We witnessed the Lakers win their Championship in 2009. We spent many fun times together. Vincent was an amazing human being with a gentle heart. Those who speak negative, have no clue! Get it right before you post your comments.
A tragedy can befall anybody anytime and we are required to express sympathy with the affected people, with that said, this is for his family, friends and especially his brother Sporty who isn’t here to mourn his twin. My heart goes out to you in your time of sorrow. Casper was a beautiful person with a good soul. I will cherish every moment spent with him. I believe God saw him getting tired of his struggles and a cure was not to be, so he put his arms around him and whispered "come to me".

Casper will truly be missed but never fogotten.
