A story for every victim

Virginia Villa, 73

Virginia Villa, a 73-year-old Latina, was shot and killed Wednesday, July 12, in the 128900 block of Wingo Street in Pacoima, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.

Shortly before 10:30 a.m., police were called to a home where they found Villa in a wheelchair with a gunshot wound to her head, said Los Angeles Police Officer Tony Im.

About five feet away, her husband was lying on the couch holding a handgun and suffering from a gunshot wound to his head.

Villa was pronounced dead at the scene at 10:37 a.m.

Villa’s husband, Gilbert Villa, 87, was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead. His death was ruled a suicide, according to coroner's records.

Police believe Gilbert Villa shot his wife, then shot himself.

Family members told investigators that the man was struggling with board-and-care facility bills for his wife, who had “numerous medical conditions,” Im said.
