Whitney Henry Yorke, 32

Whitney Henry Yorke, a 32-year-old black man, was shot and killed Friday, March 31, in the 3100 block of 8th Avenue in Jefferson Park, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.

Yorke was sitting in folding chair in front of a home with a friend about 6:15 p.m., said Los Angeles Police Det. Dave Garrido.

Three men walked up and fired multiple gunshots, striking Yorke, Garrido said. The suspects then fled on foot.

Yorke was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 6:58 p.m., according to coroner’s records.

Police believe the shooting is related to recent gang activity in the area.
