Wife found guilty of fatally shooting husband
A 56-year-old woman was found guilty Jan. 23 of fatally shooting her husband in April 2007, according to the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office.
The jury deliberated for less than two days before finding Linda Dorren Gwozdz, who is white, guilty of second-degree murder, said Deputy Dist. Atty. Robert Villa.
Patrick Albert Duffey, a 50-year-old white man, was shot and killed April 26, 2007, in the 15800 block of Sharon Hill Drive in East Whittier, according Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
Gwozdz initially claimed that the gun accidentally went off while she was playing with it, Villa said.
During a multi-year investigation, Gwozdz moved to Mississippi and remarried.
On May 22, 2012, she was arrested at her home in Hattiesburg and later extradited to Los Angeles to stand trial.
Gwozdz, who faces a maximum sentence of 40 years to life in state prison, is expected back in court March 9 for sentencing.
