Andres Castaneda, 27

Andres Castaneda, a 27-year-old Latino, was shot and killed Friday, Oct. 3, in the 1300 block of Amalia Avenue in East Los Angeles, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.

Shortly before 8:30 p.m., Castaneda was sitting in a blue pickup truck when three men, described by sheriff’s deputies as Latinos, approached him and began shooting, said Lt. Dave Coleman with the L.A. County Sheriff’s Department.

Castaneda tried to drive away, but ended up crashing into a parked car, Coleman said.

Castaneda was pronounced dead at the scene at 8:28 p.m., said Ed Winter, assistant chief of investigations for the coroner’s office.

The gunmen fled in an unknown direction.
