A story for every victim

Armando Gonzalez, 25

A 25-year-old Latino man, whose name investigators are still trying to confirm, was shot at 406 N. Bixel St. in the Westlake area of Los Angeles, and died at 11:12 p.m. Sunday, May 6.

It happened in LAPD's Rampart area at about 10:30 p.m. The man was standing on the sidewalk with two others, a 17-year-old youth and a 21-year-old woman, when a white Ford SUV, possibly with three Latino men inside, pulled up. Gunfire erupted, and the man "was probably dead before he hit the ground," said Det. Fred Faustino of Rampart Division. The youth and woman were both injured by gunfire with wounds to their extremities. They are expected to recover. The victim, who has not been positively identified, just got out of prison a week prior to the shooting, and was visiting a friend in the neighborhood. He was a documented gang member, but he was not from the area, and, in fact, his gang was reportedly small, obscure, and had not been known to be active in recent years, police said.
