Juan Carlos Castillo-Maldonado, 22

Juan Carlos Castillo-Maldonado, 22, a Latino man, was shot and killed in an officer-involved shooting at the intersection of Park View Street and Ocean View Avenue near MacArthur Park about 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 16.

According to police, officers with LAPD's Rampart Division responded to a report that an armed man had tried to rob three people in separate incidents. Officers spotted Castillo-Maldonado near the intersection, where they pulled over, got out of their patrol car, and instructed him in English and Spanish to drop his gun.

Castillo-Maldonado then pointed the gun at the officers and was shot once in the upper body, authorities said. He was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 4:30 p.m. A gun was recovered at the scene, authorities added.
