Charles Louis Nevils, 33

Charles Nevils, a 33-year-old black man, was shot and killed Saturday, April 9, in the 6400 block of South Vermont Avenue in Vermont Knolls, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.

About 11:30 a.m., officers responded to a call of a shooting outside a liquor store, said LAPD Det. Dave Garrido. Officers arrived and found Nevils inside the store with a gunshot wound.

Investigators learned that moments earlier, Nevils was outside the store and got into a fight with another person. The fight escalated and Nevils staggered inside the store.

Nevils was pronounced dead at the scene.
