Nava was walking along Vermont Avenue and speaking to people on the street around 3 p.m., said Los Angeles County Sheriff's Lt. Eddie Hernandez.

As he was standing on the northwest corner of South Vermont Avenue and West 91st Street, a man standing on the southwest corner of the intersection began shooting at him,  Hernandez said.
