Christian Nava, a 17-year-old Latino, was killed Friday after he was shot at the intersection of South Vermont Avenue and West 91st Street in Westmont, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.  

Nava was walking along Vermont Avenue and speaking to people on the street around 3 p.m., said Los Angeles County Sheriff's Lt. Eddie Hernandez. 

As he was standing on the northwest corner of South Vermont Avenue and West 91st Street, a man standing on the southwest corner of the intersection began shooting at him,  Hernandez said. 

Nava collapsed and was pronounced dead at the scene at 3:22 p.m. with multiple gunshot wounds, according to coroner's records. 

The shooter, described only as a black male, ran from the scene, according to witnesses. 

Hernandez said investigators don't know why Nava was in the Westmont area.
