Derrick Deshon Owens, 17

Derrick Deshon Owens, a 17-year-old black teenager, was shot and killed Monday, Aug. 18, in the 1000 block of East Adams Boulevard in Historic South-Central, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.

About 7:40 p.m., Los Angeles police officers got a call of a shooting, said LAPD Det. Kelle Baitx. Officers found Owens on the sidewalk.

Investigators believe that Owens was walking along the street when he was approached by a gunman.

Owens was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 8:23 p.m., said Ed Winter, the assistant chief of investigations for the coroner’s office.
