Deshawn Childs, 38

Deshawn Childs, a 38-year-old black man, was shot and killed Saturday, Sept. 26, in the 12300 block of Wilmington Avenue in Florence-Firestone, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

About 1:40 a.m., Los Angeles County sheriff's deputies were called to the area regarding a gunshot victim, according to a news release from the department.

Deputies arrived to find Childs on the ground suffering from gunshot wounds.

Witnesses told authorities that Childs and another man were at Dee's Liquor near Wilmington Avenue and East 124th Street when they got into an argument. The two left the store together and walked south on Wilmington Avenue. As Childs and the man were walking, the man pulled out a gun and shot Childs.

The gunman got into a gray vehicle and drove away, authorities said.

At this time, it is unknown what the argument was over.

Childs was pronounced dead at the scene at 1:39 a.m., according to coroner's records.
