Deshawn Miles, 19

Deshawn Miles, a 19-year-old black man, was shot and killed Thursday, July 17, in the 8200 block of Sepulveda Boulevard on the border of Van Nuys and Panorama City, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.

Miles, along with 22-year-old Maron States, were involved in a brief confrontation with two men shortly before 6 a.m. outside a 7-Eleven, said Capt. Todd Chamberlain of the Los Angeles Police Department.

The two men pulled out a gun and fired at States and Miles. A third man in his 50s was also wounded.

States and Miles were pronounced dead in front of the store at 6 a.m., said Ed Winter, a coroner’s spokesman.

Police have identified 29-year-old Angel Santana as a suspect in the killing. He remains at large.
