Devonte Laray Bowie, 18

Devonte Laray Bowie, an 18-year-old black man, was shot and killed Saturday, May 24 in the 1300 block of East 112th Street in Watts, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.

Bowie and an 18-year-old friend were standing outside a home about 2:25 a.m. in the Nickerson Gardens Housing development when a man walked up and shot both of them several times, said Los Angeles police Det. Sal LaBarbera.

Both of the men were taken to a hospital. Bowie was pronounced dead at 4:58 a.m. The other 18-year-old is expected to survive.

Detectives learned that moments before the shooting, Bowie and the 18-year-old had gotten into an argument with a person, LaBarbera said. The argument may be connected to the shooting.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Criminal Gang Homicide Division at (213) 485-1383. Those who wish to remain anonymous can call Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-8477.
