A story for every victim

Elias Jimenez, 36

Elias Jimenez, a 36-year-old Latino, was fatally shot on Wednesday, June 14, in the 3700 block of East 56th Street in Maywood, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.

Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputies were called to a house on the street at 4:47 p.m. regarding a gunshot victim, said Lt. Joe Mendoza.

When deputies arrived, the front door was standing open, and no one was home except Jimenez, who had been shot at least once in the upper torso, Mendoza said.

Jimenez was pronounced dead at the scene at 5:15 p.m., according to coroner’s records, which listed the cause of death as a gunshot wound to the chest.

The house where he died is not vacant or abandoned, Mendoza said. It has electricity, water and furniture, “but it’s kind of like a neighborhood hangout house, where a bunch of people just hang out.”

Jimenez did not have a permanent address, but had been living in the Maywood area in a different part of town, Mendoza said. Investigators believe he was just visiting the house at the time he was shot.

Investigators don’t have any suspect information, Mendoza said.

Anyone with information is asked to call the sheriff’s Homicide Bureau at (323) 890-5500. Those wishing to remain anonymous can call Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-8477.
