A story for every victim

Eric Hector Sarabia, 36

Eric Hector Sarabia, a 36-year-old Latino, was found dead from gunshot wounds Tuesday, Nov. 24, in the 13900 block of Flatbush Avenue in Norwalk, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.

Deputies were called to the scene about 3:50 p.m. after a passerby noticed a man slumped inside a white van, said Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Lt. Steve Jauch.

The man, later identified as Sarabia, was sitting in the rear seat with trauma to his face and head, Jauch said.

Investigators later determined that Sarabia had been shot in the face, Jauch said. He was pronounced dead at 3:51 p.m., according to coroner’s records, but investigators don’t know when he was a shot, Jauch said.

Residents in the area told investigators they heard gunfire the day before, “but we don’t know if it’s related,” Jauch said.

The van was registered to Sarabia’s mother, who gave it to him as a gift, Jauch said. Sarabia had been living in the van, he said, and parking around the neighborhood for some time.

Jauch said investigators are still processing the van but there was no immediate evidence of bullet holes on the outside of the vehicle.
