George Allen Billups Jr. (2014-07-06)

George Allen Billups Jr., a 52-year-old black man, was shot and killed Sunday, July 6, in the 800 block of West 92nd Street in Vermont Vista, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.

About 6:26 p.m., Billups was standing with at least two other people near West 92nd Street and Baring Cross Road when a dark-colored vehicle pulled up and someone yelled at him and the others and fired several shots, said Los Angeles Police Det. Sal LaBarbera.

Billups was pronounced dead at 6:45 p.m. at the scene, said Ed Winter, a coroner’s spokesman.

Billups was not believed to be the intended target, LaBarbera said.
