George Franklin MacGregor, a 44-year-old white man, was fatally shot Sunday, Oct. 4, in the 7400 block of Bellaire Avenue in Sun Valley, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.

About 9:15 p.m., MacGregor was walking along the sidewalk when a vehicle pulled up and two Latinos got out and asked him for his bag, said Los Angeles Police Det. Dave Peteque.

MacGregor refused to turn over his belongings, and he struggled with the assailants before trying to run away. As MacGregor ran, someone shot him once, Peteque said.

MacGregor was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 9:43 p.m.  Coroner’s records show that MacGregor died of a gunshot wound to the back.

Police believe the vehicle may have been a black Honda Civic.
