Hayim Taylor, 36

Hayim Taylor, a 36-year-old black man, died Friday, July 7, after he was shot in the 4500 block of South Van Ness Avenue on the border of Vermont Square, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.

About 12:30 a.m. July 6, LAPD officers responded to a call of a shooting and found a wounded Taylor on the front porch of a duplex, said Los Angeles Police Det. Dave Garrido.

Police believe Taylor opened his front door in response to a knock, and was shot.

Taylor was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead July 7 at 1:28 a.m., according to coroner’s records.
