Hector Angel Cantun, 18

Hector Angel Cantun, an 18-year-old Latino, was shot and killed Tuesday, Sept. 9, in the 100 block of North Toluca Street in Echo Park, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.

Residents in the area heard gunshots shortly before 8:15 p.m. and called police, said LAPD Det. John Motto. Shortly after the calls, Cantun was dropped off at Good Samaritan Hospital with multiple gunshot wounds.

Cantun was pronounced dead at 8:38 p.m., said Ed Winter, assistant chief of investigations for the coroner’s office.

Detectives are seeking witnesses to the shooting, which is believed to be part of an ongoing conflict between gangs in the area, Motto said.
